How easy are RS-Logix Add-On Instructions?
Integrating the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM with WAGO Add-On instructions
is as easy as 1, 2, 3...!
Upgrade your Allen-Bradley® Logix System with Add-On Instructions
WAGO offers many ways to increase the performance of a new or existing Allen-Bradley® controller. Due to the compact size, modularity and flexibility of the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM, solutions that are both cost effective and save space, as well as add powerful functionality, can be offered.
Now, with the addition of WAGO predefined Add-On Instructions for use within RS LogixTM 5000, users of ControlLogix®, CompactLogix®, and DriveLogix® can easily and cost effectively add the below listed functionality with the use of a WAGO bus coupler and the corresponding I/O module. Note: standard analog and digital I/O functions can also be added as part of the WAGO solution.

To use Add-On Instructions, you must have RS LogixTM 5000 (version 16 and up) and the WAGO predefined Add-On Instruction XML file. Implementation is as simple as using the import feature in RS Logix, selecting the proper file, and inserting it into your existing PLC code (supports both relay logic and structured text programming languages). The file comes fully documented and looks like part of your RS LogixTM 5000 software. All that is left is to establish the parameters required for your application.

Existing/Legacy Applications:
As the demands on existing applications increase, engineers are faced with the decision to upgrade/update or replace existing control systems. While adding functionality to an existing control system is often the more affordable approach, consideration of the PLCs’ available resources must be made.
If the PLC has little or no capacity, Allen-Bradley® users can incorporate WAGO programmable controller products to take advantage of their cost effectiveness, compact size, special function modules and processing power with capabilities such as PID loop control. While these controllers serve to off load the existing PLC, they do require the use of the WAGO programming software – WAGO-I/O-PRO.
If the PLC has capacity, Allen-Bradley® users can incorporate WAGO bus-coupler products to take advantage of their cost effectiveness, compact size, and special function modules. For the latter, WAGO has developed predefined Add-On Instructions for use within RS LogixTM 5000, allowing Logix system users to take full advantage of the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM without the need for separate programming software.
New Applications:
New applications can also benefit from the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM as it is often more cost effective than the combination of expansion racks and PLC I/O cards. With the WAGO pre-defined Add-On Instructions, Allen-Bradley® users can continue to use their Logix system CPU and software but use the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM for their input and output requirements – including special functions. As a result, I/O expansion is not just limited to standard analog or digital signals.
Additional Benefits of the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM:
-
1, 2, 4 or 8 channels I/O modules allow optimization of I/O nodes – buy only the I/O you need
-
Over 300 different analog, digital and special function I/O modules – one for every application.
-
Rack-less DIN rail mount design facilitates easy I/O expansion – no chassis required.
-
Compact housing takes up less panel space and allows the option of locating the I/O closer to the process.
